Tariq Omar Memorial Cup

In honour of Tariq Omar and the 50 others who tragically lost their lives on 15 March 2019, FC Twenty 11 holds the annual Tariq Omar Memorial Cup.

Tariq was a much-loved member of FC Twenty 11, a dedicated volunteer coach for junior teams, and a passionate ambassador for the game. Football was one of his great passions, and each year we come together through the sport he loved to remember Tariq and honour his life and legacy.

The Tariq Omar Memorial Cup is a one-day football tournament that brings teams and our wider community together in remembrance. As we mark the eighth anniversary of the Cup in 2026, we invite everyone to join us in continuing to honour Tariq, remember all those whose lives were lost, and celebrate the lasting connections that football can create.

TARIQ OMAR MEMORIAL FUND

The Tariq Omar Memorial Fund was established in 2019 alongside the Memorial Cup, initially to support the families affected by the tragic mosque attacks on 15 March.

Following consultation with Tariq’s family, the fund is now focused on continuing his legacy by supporting FC Twenty 11 members who need financial assistance to participate in football. Its purpose is to help reduce financial barriers and ensure that more children have the opportunity to enjoy the game.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Omar family for generously donating the proceeds from the tournament to the fund. This meaningful contribution helps honour Tariq’s legacy and supports the football community he was such an important part of.

Each year, FC Twenty 11 will provide opportunities for members and supporters to donate to the Tariq Omar Memorial Fund. All proceeds from the Tariq Omar Memorial Cup will also go towards the fund, helping the club subsidise playing fees for families who need support. The fund has already helped a number of young players take part in football, ensuring that financial circumstances are less likely to stand in the way.

We welcome anyone who would like to support this kaupapa and help make football accessible to more children in our community. Donations can be made through the form below. Thank you for helping us honour Tariq’s memory by supporting the next generation of players.
